3.4 Requesting an authorization code and for a domain to be unlocked

The authorization code is sent to the email address provided in the owner details, or the owner of the domain, when it was activated. You can submit a request to recover it.

Below you can find out how, from the Control Panel, you can request the authorization code, and ask for the domain to be unlocked or request the authorization code:

EXTENSIONS CODE UNLOCK
.it, .eu, .us, .tv, .fm, .de YES NO
.es, .gov.it, .org.uk, .co.uk NO NO
all other extensions YES YES
The request must be made for all extensions from the Control Panel for the domain, as explained below.
  Once you have logged on to the Control Panel, click on "Domain Utility" in the menu on the left, and then on authorization code or on "Request" in the appropriate section, as shown in the example below:

Domains with extensions that can be unlocked will show one of the following options:
  • UNLOCK DOMAIN which lets you unlock the domain; this will come into effect within 2 working days.
  • UNLOCK AND SEND AUTHORIZATION CODE which sends the request to unlock the domain, which will come into effect within 2 working days, and for the authorization code which may be:
    • visible immediately on the right of the same page (if the "owner details" domain and the "personal details" are the same);
    • sent by email to the email address provided in the owner details for the domain, by clicking on "Send authorization code" (for business customers, you will also be able to choose for the Code to be sent to the PEC address given to the Company register).
  • SEND AUTHORIZATION CODE which just requests the authorization code, which will be shown or sent as described above.
  If you cannot remember the email address provided for the owner details, or if you would like to change it, before you request the Authorization Code, follow the instructions in the article entitled "Change your email address of reference".
Domains with extensions that CANNOT be unlocked will immediately show the code or the button:
  • SEND AUTHORIZATION CODE which means that the authorization code may be:
    • visible immediately on the same page of the Control Panel (if the i "owner details" for the domain and the "personal details" are the same);
    • sent by email to the email address provided in the owner details for the domain, by clicking on "Send authorization code" (for business customers, you will also be able to choose for the code to be sent to the PEC address given to the Company register).
